Porcelain Veneers

What is a porcelain veneer?

A veneer is a thin semi-translucent shell made to fit precisely over an existing tooth, much like a false fingernail fits over a nail. Veneers are usually fabricated from porcelain and are held in place using a special resin cement that adheres to the back of the veneer and the front of the tooth.

What can porcelain veneers be used for?

Veneers offer an excellent cosmetic remedy for a variety of dental conditions that may affect the appearance of your teeth. Veneers may be used to:

  • Close spaces between your teeth
  • Restore fractured or chipped teeth
  • Cover unsightly stains or discoloured teeth
  • Correct uneven or crooked teeth.

Why use a veneer rather than a crown?

A traditional crown covers the entire tooth while a traditional veneer only covers the front surface of the tooth. One of the main advantages of a veneer over a crown is that only a small amount of tooth structure needs to be removed to prepare a tooth for a veneer.
